New smart - automated GCP products

Recommended Posts

I was able to test a demo set from Propeller. I used them on 5 projects and cross checked them with actual GCPs. Accuracy was spot on and consistent with the existing GCPs on site.    Instructions are to leave them in place for a minimum of 30 minutes so that they can capture a fix and acquire the correction needed for accuracy.  They are very easy to use. It is as simple as turn them on, deploy in locations, then pick up at end. When you pick them up you press one button for automatic transfer of data through wifi to the cloud. Shortly thereafter you receive an email letting you know the corrected data is available.    The only draw back for us was the coordinates were in a different format and had to be converted to state plane for our use.   I was impressed with the ease of use and accuracy.  Their maps show some gaps in coverage but was told if we needed an area outside of the coverage area to notify them and they would put it in place quickly.  I have not pulled the trigger yet, still trying to justify the initial expense.  Currently testing the Trimble Catalyst and DA1 antenna.

These are one of my capital improvement additions on the list for this year. I am not planning on adding the software to the purchase. Converting coordinates aren't that big a deal for me; do that frequently on a daily basis. I just want accuracy and the ability to toss and forget them. With ten I can lay a grid out and by the time we fly the entire grid they are ready to process. And I don't have to lug a GPS around with me.
