  1. Also just switched to DaVinci Resolve after years of Premiere Pro -- already glad I did. Watched your video with great interest. Won't comment on the color grading since I'm new to Resolve (and to drones as well). There were a number of features I liked such as the addition of sound to match the images - the church bells, traffic, and oars in the water. Also the interesting 'flip' of the reflection! Nicely done video. I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

  2. Hey Alan, glad you liked the Canyon Lake footage! I'm going to be building out my portfolio a bit more with shots I took there; I lived there for about 5 months in 2019 so I had time to try a bunch of different things. I've only flown near downtown once really but it was fun. It's hard to keep up with the ever-changing skyline! This is from June 2019, super-compressed to fit in the forum post haha.

  3. Hi @MrDrone96, Overall this was a great first video and I enjoyed it. Two things I noticed were transitions and color temperature. Some of the transitions cut hard, I recommend using a simple and clean transition like cross dissolve. Transitions will vary depending on the video/story but in most cases you cannot go wrong with the cross dissolve. The tilt reveal was also a nice effect and as you practice more of those reveals, they will become very smooth. If you have upbeat/fast audio for background music then a harder cut transition would work better than cross dissolve. I p

  4. Hi @DataInspector, There are no penalties for letting your Part 107 Certification lapse. The Part 107 does not expire, it must be renewed however if you plan to operate your drone for non-recreational applications. Letting the certification lapse will not prompt you to retake the initial Part 107 exam again. If your certification is not renewed, then you can only operate for recreation until it has been renewed. If you are not using your certification that often, you could let it lapse and then renew once the FAA launches the free online training sometime in March. The other

  6. I too am interested in pursuing opportunities using my drones: DJI Mavic 2 Pro, DJI Phantom 3. Since receiving my certification and FAA drone pilots license, the thought of being productive would be an awesome direction to generate income and experience.

  7. Hello, After request from a friend, i designed a drone anti-collision led strobe... it might look similar to others out there but i am confident it is better in several ways.. It is charging from microUSB .. onboard microcontroller is monitoring charging and battery status and disables the LED while charging. There are 4 CREE LED each run from its own LED driver controlled independently from the microcontroller. On a full battery led can deliver more than 1600+ lumen yet only about 1000 on a near empty battery. Microcontroller can alter the flashing pattern when batter

  8. I'm sure this has been asked before: I am getting the Mavic Air 2. I have the Mini that does not require Registration with the FAA. I know I have to register the Mavic Air 2, but do I also have to take an ONLINE test? It is not very clear. Thanks. I apologize if this has been asked a million times before. Larry in California

  9. I appreciate the fast reply. Luckily I have a good place to practice and I understand the basic rules (common sense) I just wanted to make sure I'm not breaking any laws. Thanks again.

  10. I'm in Citrus Heights, CA, just outside of Sacramento. Nearest airport is KMHR (Mather) and a hospital less than a half a mile from me. I did manage to obtain a permit in Roseville, CA. Paid $5 to fly in 3 parks for a year. Happy New Year and stay safe, Keith

  11. Hello. Names Keith. New to the forum. Just got a DJI mini 2 for Christmas. I’ve always been interested in photography and cinematography. Finding it quite frustrating just to find somewhere to just try and fly this thing once. I’m a pc enthusiast an avid flightsimmer.

  12. Hi Keith - Sometimes it can be tough finding good places to practice flying, especially if you live in a big city or near a major airport. I'd suggest learning a little bit about airspace and downloading an app that you can use to understand restrictions (like the kittyhawk or B4UFLY apps). The Pilot Institute has a free course for new drone pilots called the Ultimate Drone Pilot Guide. They also have a free course dedicated to the DJI Mini 2 that's pretty comprehensive.

  13. Hello. I am a new "Pilot" that started my journey amid the Covid Fatigue. I had a couple of those cheap RC Helicopters from SYMA, and went with the company's best-selling "quad". I noticed right away that it controlled a lot differently and realized that other Quads that I purchased later (The company's X8 series) operated in a similar fashion. Soon, I got my first "real" drone, the Mavic Mini 1. From there, I got the Air 2, the 2 Zoom, and a few weeks ago, the Mini 2. Even as I write this, I am already eyeballing the Inspire 2. Why? I don't know. But I figure... why stop there? I want ALL of

  14. Hello all, I currently own a couple drones with various capabilities. I am part 107 certified. One of the rules regarding 107 is to not interfere with emergency areas. I live in central California. The fires are VERY close to family and friends. Some have already had to evacuate or are under evacuation warning as of now. My question is, could I reach out to the local law enforcement, emergency services and offer my assistance? I imagine I'd need to stay well within the 107 parameters and I wouldn't be under any liability protection from the state. I just feel like I could at least

  15. Honestly, my music industry work kept me focused on getting this in order for my drone work product. I’d love to see courses that delve into some of the legal hurdles we face-too much lack of knowledge and good information out here. Happy New Year to you, too!

  16. Should I have an attorney draw up a sales and service agreement when I provide drone service to clients? I currently have an invoice drawn up with locations and cost to a client, but no official agreement for both of us to sign. Thank You Beverly Johnston

  17. Interesting. Reminds me of the time I used my drone to help out on my sister's family farm to get the cows back to the barn.

  18. For the client, I am granting them full use worldwide for the images I do for them, but that client work used for anyone else (especially that includes monetary compensation) will require my permission. I haven’t revisited that T&C since I put it up (COVID+family), so coming into 2021 before I engage a client should warrant a review considering your comment. Thank you!

  20. Good afternoon all! Real quick background, I’m a non-traditional (woohoo! second career time) student working towards a Bachelors of Science in Wildlife, Sustainability, and Ecosystems Science (WSES) with a concentration in Natural Resource Ecology (focusing on plants). I have been reading up and looking at the use of drones for plant mapping. I have seen significant information and videos on the use of multispectral imaging using drones for agriculture purposes and think those methods would be beneficial in plant community research. However, where to start. In my younger more wilder

  22. Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask about the list of where to fly a drone in Sacramento. Are all 5 places in the list legal to fly drones in? I read about the Sacramento law about prohibiting drones in parks, and most of the places there are parks. I also found a link to a map of Sacramento parks where the law is applicable, but the map won't load, it says it reached its allowable views or something to that effect. I ordered a drone and it will arrive on Monday, I was very excited to get flying, then I read about this Sacramento law, and it was a huge bummer :-(

  23. Here's my latest property video. I generally don't do property video's but I have a realtor friend who has about six of these types of listing and he asked if I would do the video and photography. I really enjoy it but this took me two days of shooting and another in post and realtors, friend or not, are not willing to pay what it would take to do this type of work. I'm guessing if I did more of it I could cut the production time in half but even then it would be tough to be profitable. I really enjoyed shooting this place.
