  1. I finally took the plunge and got a Phantom 3 Standard over the weekend. I put some prop guards and landing stabilizers on it, but I think I'm going to wait until the weather is a bit nicer to fly it. It's been pretty crappy around here lately with the snow and ice.

    Hello

I'm sure you'll find you can learn a good bit from this forum. There are lots of smart folks on here. Oh, and welcome from southern IL.
  3. Welcome to the forum from southern IL.
  4. I'll have to check it out later since I can't access it right now. Can you use a Phantom 3 controller with this software?
  5. I would have gone with 31.375, but that's just me. Hahahaha.
  6. The FAA is declaring a 32-mile wide no fly zone during the Super Bowl (Levi's Stadium) and said that any drones encountered will be met with "deadly force", which I'm guessing means they will shoot it down. I'm just wondering if some knucklehead is going to test this and make the rest of us look bad. Most people seem to have a negative connotation of UAVs already. http://www.businessinsider.com/the-faa-is-warning-people-not-to-fly-drones-within-32-miles-of-the-super-bowl-2016-2
  7. It looks pretty neat, but the flight time is only 5-7 minutes, which I thought would have been more for a UAV that size.
  8. Has anyone else seen this yet? It's kind of cool that it can bring down the UAV without destroying it. http://www.allthatsnews.com/videos/science/watch-anti-drone-rifle-uses-unbelievable-tech-take-down-drones-video
  9. I'm not really sure since I'm a newbie, but hang tight. There are some knowledgeable folks on here that can probably chime in with some info.
  10. Oops. I guess If I would have been paying attention, I would have noticed that the video was hosted elsewhere. I also think it's a good idea to have a dedicated thread for it so members can comment on and critique them.
  11. Your topic brings up a good point. Should we have a separate thread dedicated to users submitting their video footage, or at least shortened clips of it (so as not to consume copious amounts of bandwidth) or perhaps just link their video on another side such as youtube or vimeo? Can you embed video from another site into a thread on this forum? Alan?
  12. Are you sure the video is saved directly to your phone? According to the specs for that model, it comes with a memory card. http://www.wltoys.eu/en/quadcopter/medium/wltoys-v686k#Specifications I would think that it would save the video directly to that card, but maybe this model doesn't. Do you know what format the video is in? Perhaps your android phone doesn't have the right codec? If you can, move that video on to a removable SD card and put it in a computer and see if you can play the video using VLC. If VLC can't play it, then I'd be inclined to believe that either the SD card is not properly formatted, the data is corrupt, or nothing was actually recorded to it.
  13. This is very, very sad. Ice on lakes can be deceiving since you can't tell how thick it is. To all you winter fliers, be careful out there. http://www.kmov.com/story/31044304/granite-city-man-dies-after-falling-through-frozen-pond
  14. Thanks for the link for the landing stabilizers. I didn't even know those were available. I'll be sure to get some whenever I upgrade to a Phantom.
  15. I think we can all agree that UAV technology is evolving pretty quickly. That being said, what feature would you most like to see on the next Phantom, Yuneec, 3DR, or whatever flavor you prefer? I don't even have one of these yet, but I think I would cast my vote for obstacle avoidance, or whatever they are calling it. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, would this be more likely to be incorporated into the next major release of these UAVs, or would it be more likely that it would be made available to all of them retroactively via firmware update?
