About Me

  1. I am about to purchase the Phantom 4 Pro for a pilot for a tv show. I've never shot with a drone before and was wondering if there might be any advice, tips, and or warnings before I make this purchase. I also have a film that I plan on using a few drone shots for this spring. Thanks again for your thoughts. - Brian 4 Bees Media, LLC
  2. Hello everyone, I just got the best Christmas present ever, a brand new Mavic Pro by DJI. I am really excited to fly this drone and learn about all the features and controls. I picked my drone out a few weeks ago after testing the Mavic Pro, I was hooked. I love how compact this drone is, high quality and able to handle some weather challenges. I also got 3 batteries that came with my drone, that's exciting and a battery docking station and car charger. I'm looking forward to hearing all about the Mavic Pro and learning from the pro's already using the Mavic.
  3. Yesterday I showed up to fly a project with a message on my screen that an update was required. I've avoided the updates since June, and decided I liked the features in the newest release and I should go ahead and do this update. Updated the bird, got ready to fly and boom...brick. No feed from the camera, remote inputs all over the place and inconsistent, flashing green/red connection light on the remote. Controller firmware version reads: Unknown Device, Unknown Firmware. Called DJI support, explained the situation, performed a handful of manual firmware upgrade / update commands and no luck. Now my kit is boxed up, awaiting the shipping label they're supposed to send. I'll keep y'all posted as to how this pans out. The lady recommended I send only the remote controller, but I know better than that silliness. I did read about others having the same issues, some of whom received brand new Phantom 4 kits in return. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll send me a P4A
  4. 5. Hi Everyone! I'm a student here studying for Part 107! Hope everyone's doing well : ) I'm interested in getting some feedback about my options for buying a drone with specific specs for a project I'm working on. OK so here it goes: Carrying capacity of up to 8-10 lbs Transmission distance at least 3 miles Ability to fly at least 6 miles roundtrip I have been looking at the DJI Matrice 200 & 600 but I'm sure there are alternatives out there...just don't know enough about all of the different manufacturers yet! I suppose a fixed wing UAV would also be an option. I really appreciate any help I can get as a newcomer here! Thanks!!
  6. Hi everyone, My friend, Devon, put together this brilliant resource on Ground Control Points. You don't need them most of the time but when you do, it's worth it to get it right. That's detailed here, as well. Check it out. https://blog.dronedeploy.com/when-to-use-ground-control-points-2d404d9f5b15

  8. Thought I would share one of my four cameras I had recording the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017. This was taken in southern Illinois over the Lake of Egypt near Marion. You will notice a distant (6.5 mile away) unpaved airports runway lights automatically turn on as the moon blocks the sun, before they turn back off (upper left corner). The colors were so surreal that color correcting seemed a bit off even though I remember the way it really looked. You can see the shadow approaching from the bottom right of the screen, and after the moon passes you will see the shadow come back in the opposite direction before I do spin to show the area I was flying. I experienced 2 1/2 min of complete totality. This was taken with manual exposure settings on a DJI Phantom 4 from about 380ft AGL. I filmed in d-log at 4k cinematic, 24fps and sped it up into a time-lapse. Used the lowest neutral density filter I had, which was a PolarPro ND-4 . Custom settings were -2 for sharpness, contrast and exposure. I used FCPX to do color correction and edit this short sample to share with you all. I have lots more footage of this spectacular experience to share with the world, from my Canon XH A1s, Celestron brand telescopes & binoculars, DJI OSMO+, GoPro Hero 4 Black and some iPhone7. Expect some more visual goodies very soon! Cheers and safe flying, -Ryan Deremo SkyFly Cinematics
  9. Hi Everyone, I am Prince and I am from Ghana and i happy to be part of this wonderful community. DJI Phantom4 Pro is what i use. Hope to learn more from here.

  12. I’m selling this DJI Inspire 1 Pro that I purchased in February 2017. I am very impressed with this aircraft and the Zenmuse X5 camera and lens but want to purchase a next-level drone/camera system for filmmaking. I’ve used photos and video shot on this drone for client and personal video projects. I have had no problems (or crashes) with the drone or camera which has 3 hours and 16 minutes of flight time. Here are the basics of this package deal: DJI Inspire 1 Pro v2.0 Quadcopter DJI transmitter/controller for the Inspire 1 Pro Device holder for controller Zenmuse X5 camera 3-axis gimbal Micro Four Thirds (MFT) 15mm f/1.7 ASPH prime lens TB47 Intelligent Flight Battery for Inspire 1 Pro (provides about 15 minutes of flight time) 2 x TB48 Intelligent flight batteries Case that holds all this gear. Polar Pro DJI Zenmuse X5/X5R Filter 6-Pack (3, 4, and 5-stop neutral density filters in polarized and non-polarized) – These filters really produce amazing color and make photos and videos with this drone look professional. And additional accessories. I’m asking $2,900. Cash or PayPal works for me and I’m willing to ship from Boise, ID. Community, please let me know if this price seems fair. Please visit my website at http://www.jefferyoliver.com/dji-inspire-1-pro-v2-0-for-sale/ for maintenance and flight logs, photos, videos, and package details. 13. Hey drone enthusiasts! I LOVE going out to fly and capture beautiful sublime and picturesque videos and photos just like you guys so I want to know a bit more about the community with this quick survey I made. If you guys could spare a literal minute of your time that'd be perfect. It'd really help me learn about the community a bit more. Thanks and happy flying! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/r693J83D
  14. Tattu and SP FPV Team spent 3 days in Kuitun river canyon, Xinjiang Province, China to make this video. FPV powered by great Tattu power flew over the great Kuitun river canyon. Such an amazing flight in beautiful scenery. Video was shot by Tattu and Super Pluse Team with DJI Inspire.
  15. Hi all! Just got a great email from one of our students and wanted to post here. Thought it'd be fun to crowdsource an answer / start a discussion around this very hot topic given DJI's recent firmware update: I have a problem...perhaps you can help me since you are well connected in the drone industry. I live in Starke, Florida. About 10 miles from my house is Camp Blanding (Air Force and National Guard Training facility). Of course, flying around the base is a "no-no", which is to be expected. However, I live roughly 10 miles away and I have never had a problem with flying my DJI Phantom 4 or Mavic Pro until this last DJI Firmware update for their Geo-Fencing. My whole city is now in a NFZ! The B4UFly app below even shows that I am "good-to-go" with flying. Here is the screen capture from my Mavic Pro of DJI's new Geo-Fencing with the NFZ being in RED. At the very top below the "Atti" graphic is Jacksonville's International Airport (JAX) and it's appropriate NFZ area. Almost directly south of JAX airport on the river is one of the military bases in Jacksonville. The HUGE Red NFZ in the bottom left side is my small town of Starke. With DJI's latest firmware update, I now have lost all of my ability to fly commercially for local Car Dealerships and other business that want my services. Below, the red triangle with the purple circle is my house. I'm roughly 3/10ths of a mile from being out of this over-reaching NFZ. Is there ANYTHING that I can do to have DJI change this crazy NFZ since the FAA themselves say that's it's okay to fly in my City and at my house? Of course, I love both of my DJI drones....but this is so bad that I'm considering other companies for future purchases. I really do appreciate what they are doing with the Geo-fencing and I can see the benefit in having it. However, when the FAA says the area is okay to fly....the DJI software should say the same thing!! They should mirror exactly what the FAA puts out....not add more to it.
  16. Hi All, I was speaking with Alan today and he suggested I post on the forum here. I work for Prelaunch Labs and we are looking to partner with Drone Pilot Instructors on a program that involves the Epson Moverio BT-300 AR Glasses. These glasses allow the pilot to keep line of sight on the drone, while showing the flight data. If you would like more details about the program please email or call our office. 19. If you're mapping, you should be familiar with Ground Control Points. This article gives a rundown on what they are, why they're important, and how to implement them. https://blog.dronedeploy.com/what-are-ground-control-points-gcps-and-how-do-i-use-them-4f4c3771fd0b
  20. Just posted my first tutorial on Youtube: #1 tip for improving your drone footage. Go check it out below and let me know what you think about it and how I can improve in future tutorials. Also, be sure to comment below what topics you'd like to see ! Thanks for watching !
  21. Here's my latest creation, a short video documenting and showing a quick trip I did a few weeks ago to explore an historical village in the north of Portugal. Aerials were captured with my trusty DJI Phantom 3 Standard, ground shots mostly a Canon DSLR and two shots with iPhone.
  22. In the early 2017 drone market, is the inspire 2 worth getting over the phantom 4 pro when it comes to mapping construction sites and farmland. Thanks
  23. This is the extended version of a teaser video I've posted here before, hope you enjoy it, I'm experimenting with creating more engaging videos mixing different types of footage and varying the pace of the shots. This was shot during a weekend roadtrip to the Alentejo, during Carnival weekend a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if you'd like to see more of this and be sure to subscribe my youtube channel to get the latest videos I post.
  24. Hi all, Daniel Lench here from Gessner Engineering. Having flown RC helicopters and FPV drones in my personally life, and bringing the idea of using drones to add to our company's offerings, I've been the ground crew, trainer and data processor since we started our fleet in May 2015. We now have 2 eBee and 1 DJI Phantom 4 and while all of our survey crew has been certified to fly commercially for a while, I was simply unable to attend the training at the time. We are so busy now that I must be able to be the PIC on independent missions so here I am. The site was a recommendation of Sally French aka Drone Girl http://thedronegirl.com/ and I'm happy to see an active community behind it. At Gessner Engineering I am the CAD and BIM manager along with handling the processing of our collected drone data. I manage all of our AutoCAD templates, standards and training and specialize in extreme site grading using AutoCAD Civil3D. For BIM, using Navisworks, I am able to bring models from different disciplines to detect clashes in design and offer suggestions to remedy them. You can find me at the Gessner Engineering Main office in College Station. We have satellite offices in San Antonio, Fort Worth with two material testing labs located in College Station and Brenham. Our services include Civil Engineering (that's where I'll be ;), Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying and Construction Materials Testing in our AASHTO Certified labs. Best to all and hit me up if you're in the area or have a project we can work together on a project. Dan
  25. Spent the weekend away at a B&B in Alentejo, Portugal and created a short teaser for a longer video I'm working on to document this trip. Hope you enjoy ! Continue to experiment with mixing different angles to create a more engaging video, using both aerial and other types of shots. This was all shot in about 1hr right before sunset using my trusty DJI Phantom 3 Standard, a Canon DSLR and GoPro Session (for the timelapse). Edited and color graded in Final Cut Pro X.
