About Me

  1. Planning a trip to Orlando to fly your drone around? Might wanna check out this news story first (link below). I came across this today and I guess the popular Florida city has added some new drone laws and ordinances for UAV pilots. Sounds like perfect timing for them to implement something like this with Spring Break about to start. https://www.airvuz.com/video/AV-News-Orlando-Drone-Ordinance?id=58a753168f3fe63b60c9ed16
  2. Hi I am new to this forum and just checking out how things work around here. Seems very informative, and I think I will really enjoy it. I have been droning for over a year now but recently just got a DJI Mavic and feel like I have entered a whole new world of drones. Everything about this little drone is amazing! Here is the first video that I took in downtown Minneapolis the other day with my Mavic: https://www.airvuz.com/video/Mavic-Meets-Gold-Medal-Park?id=58a26c619d17f44d8d064372 Thanks!
  3. Hi guys, I'm a newly interested UAS drone pilot looking for a school to pick from in terms of preparing myself for the industry. Right now I am torn between UND and Oklahoma State. UND is a leader when it comes to training pilots and offers a major in UAS (however it only focuses on flying and not engineering or design in uas), they are also pretty cheap when it comes to overall cost. Oklahoma on the other hand offers a graduate program that focuses on UAS engineering. What I am torn on is the decision about whether to completely forgo my backup plan to be a professional pilot and enter the drone industry through the engineering aspect of things, or should I keep the commercial pilot idea in hand because of the shortage and just go through one of the drone pilot programs that focus on flight and not necessarily engineering or design? Anybody who has experience in the field or at one of these universities would offer me huge help, thanks.
  4. For those that may have missed this segment on 60 Minutes this past week, here's a link to it online. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-autonomous-drones-set-to-revolutionize-military-technology/ Very interesting application of multiple drones working in "harmony" for a common goal. But wait, there's more!.......... Just today, FAA granted a waiver to a company in California waiving 107.35: Operation of mulitple small unmanned aircraft systems. This is only the 6th time, by my count, that FAA has waived this part of the rulemaking and the stipulations are interesting to read. Here's the link to the waiver https://www.faa.gov/uas/request_waiver/waivers_granted/media/107W-2016-00213B_Nightingale_CoW.pdf

  7. I am currently in the market for a new drone, I currently have a Chroma but am looking to get another as well. I think I am down to either a Phantom 4 or Typhoon-H. Since both are around same price, what would you recommend? Or is there another one out there that I do not know about, or have not done enough research on? Thanks!
  8. We love drones and want to protect the community as it expands. When a drone strikes a light aircraft, there will be calls for crushing new regulation on drones. HiddenGenius is launching a competition for technology that allows small drones to sense and avoid airplanes. This tech will help everyone in the drone community - and possibly reduce future liability, regulation, and risk of killing pilots. We need your help sponsoring (crowdfunding) the prize for the winning technology! You can also help shape the goals and rules of the competition, share it with others, and compete to win! Find out more and get involved at: HiddenGenius Drone Sense and Avoid Challenge

  11. Hi there, I’m just starting to get into videography and the next thing that I would love to add to my shots is aerial views – and what better way to do this than with a drone. I have a go pro that doesn’t get used much and I was wondering if you had any advice on any beginner drones I could buy that I could attach my go pro silver 4 to? I think this would be the best option for me. Cheers Conner
  12. Does anybody host a drone podcast ? Or, know of any good drone-themed podcasts ? http://www.somedrones.com/some-drone-podcasts/ - Feel free to check this one out.
  13. Hey Alan (and other participants/members), I want to thank you for creating and perpetuating this site. I hope to learn a lot from it/you and give back when I can. I'm a Software Sales guy by day and professional Musician by night who has been flying RC for +20 years. Mostly Slope soaring (competitively at times), Electric Hotliners, and RC Helicopters. I bought my first Quad (a little Hubson) about a year ago. I upgraded to a Syma X8W, then a DJI Phantom 3. I'm shopping for an Inspire and plan to get my Section 333 in the next few months. I would like to create/build a business employing my three loves; RC, Music, and Film. Any advice, thoughts, etc. will always be appreciated. I hope to network with like-minded folks from around the world. Rock on. Jim
  14. Many exciting developments are underway in regards to drones and drone insurance. At the forefront of these innovative offerings stands Skyvuze Technologies. UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are not the only thing that our agency has launched recently. We are constantly working around the clock to provide the most efficient offerings in the entire drone industry. Among the list of programs we are piloting soon, include a contemporary online quoting platform for businesses in need of commercial UAV insurance. The new digital program will make insurance quoting easier than ever for organizations who wish to protect their company from airborne exposures. This is way more than just a profession for us. Our Fly Safe, Not Sorry™ motto originated when our Co-Founders (Alexander Sheard and Drew Hoffmann) parlayed their passion for drones into revolutionizing the UAV industry forever. Skyvuze Technologies is thrilled to take part in skyrocketing the industry to new heights! Puns aside, we assist businesses by saving them time, money and headaches by giving comprehensive quotes in a timely manner. Now that the drone industry has taken off (sorry, we promise that’s the last pun,) companies are utilizing our full-service solutions to ensure that their assets are insured. Commercial drone operations are using UAV technology ranging from hundreds to hundreds of thousands of dollars (XACTSENSE). One minor accident could warrant expensive repairs or even a total replacement. Moreover, since most business liability policies exclude aircrafts, an accident could open the door for years of court proceedings and millions of dollars in damages. Drones and other UAVs are constantly combating the elements when navigating the skies. There are many uses businesses have for drones: ● Photography & Videography - Capture those perfect HD moments from an aerial view that only a drone can. Record every memory at this year's upcoming company picnic by inviting your favorite drone operator. ● Deliveries - You’ve probably heard the rumors that Amazon utilizes drones for conveniently delivering packages to customers. One day the same could apply the next time you order from your favorite local pizza parlor. ● Wireless Networks - Once solar drones are more prominent, they can serve as mobile wireless access points across the world. These devices can reportedly stay airborne for up to five years! ● Security - The military already uses UAVs to gain intel around potentially dangerous areas. Soon, they will be a standard part of every company’s security system. Drones can effectively survey the premises while keeping employees out of harm's way in the event of an emergency. Those are just a few examples of how drones can help your business cut costs while improving everyday operations. Here are three reasons why Skyvuze Technologies is at the top of the UAV insurance game: 1. Complete Drone Solutions – We are not your typical 9-5 insurance agency who added a drone market to keep up with the industry. We are drone enthusiasts who have educational background in risk management. Put them together you have a team working 24/7 to service your needs, whether it’s adding endorsements to your insurance policy, adding a drone to your fleet, adding a crash warranty to your new drone, or getting your broken drone repaired. We become our partner’s wingman. 2. Convenient Online Application - The form is quick and easy to complete. And, don’t forget, the new online quoting platform will be going live very soon! It’s simple, we capture all the necessary information up front, avoiding endless back and forth emails. From there, we will get you a proposal that you can sign with the touch of a finger on your tablet or phone, authorizing us to bind your coverage that moment! 3. Aviation Insurance Markets – We didn’t just pick up an aviation carrier to service a few drone inquires. We have many contracts with top aviation carriers to find the best policy to fit your unique business model. Pilot in command with a 333? Excellent! No licensed pilot, no exemption? No problem! Stop wasting your time doing research, we already did it for you! As you can see, we do it all. Skyvuze Technologies is excited to continue to learn, grow, adapt in this new, rapidly exploding commercial drone insurance industry. We’ve emphasized the idea of an ongoing relationship with with our policyholders, and we always have our clients’ best interest in mind. Skyvuze Technologies doesn’t limit itself to commercial drone insurance. We understand that other exposures exist, whether it’s commercial or personal. We have the ability to protect everything you need protected, and being able to manage all of our customer’s policies under one roof…the Skyvuze Technologies’ roof…makes everything convenient. To get a free quote, visit www.skyvuzetech.com or call 855-276-6305 to speak with one of our insurance experts.

  16. Over the past few weeks as I've launched my new aerial photography business in San Antonio, Texas, easily the biggest challenge I've faced is establishing price points for the various packages I'd like to offer. I've done A LOT of research on this, but the prices and packages vary widely across the country, so what is fair while introducing the technology/service to a new market area?. Currently there is only one other business in the area legally providing these services, and I'm still waiting for my 333 Exemption, so I've also had to balance my desire to promote the business and gain market share with the fact that I cannot yet charge for the services rendered. Considerations we can discuss include: business structure (LLC, Corporation, LLP etc), budget, target audience, partnerships etc. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and recommendations. In the meantime, check out my website: www.dougleeagleaerial.com
  17. Does anyone have info on requirements or restrictions to fly in Brazil? I'm Traveling to Manaus and the Amazon middle of March.
  18. Hello Jeff Here, I am AMA #855205. I am also a Member of ERCA (Eugene Radio Control Aeronauts) I have been building and flying RC fixed wing aircraft for 20+ years. I have been building and flying multirotors since there inception. I have several quads one hex heavy lift. And a lot of FVP gear. I am a member of "Airbears" Search and Rescue. I am a Licensed and Bonded Master Carpenter and Maintenance Engineer. And have an Associates Degree in Electronics Tech. I believe that Most of the incidents that have happened with multi-rotors and drones would not have happened IF it was REQUIRED to be an AMA member. AND required to follow/ abide by AMA's rules, bylaws and suggestions. Although accidents happen at least they would not have been a Stupid or Ignorant Accident. What we fly is Electronic and/or Mechanical. And they will inherently fail at some time. But by following rules and not ever being complacent. And injury to someone is unlikely. As one of the rules is "Not to fly over People!" Thanks..... And May All Your Landing Be Smooth... Jeff Engel 541-513-2716
