  1. Good advice on practice. Training flights are FUN! Each maneuver is scalable. Circularizing your flight, especially in tight regimes, is the toughest! This is by courtesy of Scott Burgess, PhD, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and their small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) program. Have fun, and to borrow from Scott Manley (youtube - DSnM), "Fly Safe!" Basic maneuvers to practice to proficiency: Square flight pattern with aircraft heading away at all times Square flight pattern with aircraft facing toward at all times Square flight pattern with aircraft pointing into the square at all times Circle flight pattern around the square with the camera continuously pointing at the center at all times
  2. I am new to this group and have a question for anyone knowledgable about how drones use elevation data in their flights. Is it loaded into the software onboard the UAV? What data is currently available and used. And would very specific elevation data of the ground surface area along with obstacles present be of any value in that process? Here is what I am talking about .It is a collaboration between Lufthansa and Intermap Technologies in creating a global database for Drone/ UAV usage called NextView. The data specifications are listed at the bottom... https://www.intermap.com/aviation-survace-data Thanks in advance as I don't know (but am trying to learn quickly) all the nuances involved with a wildly growing industry. 3. To all the mapping pilots, Does anyone know of a flight planning app that would allow you to enter state plane coordinates or a lat/long as the waypoint location instead of just tapping the screen?
  4. Just found this link. At the bottom right of the screen is a chart that details the KP Index for each day by the hour. A KP Index of less than five is not bad, but the lower the number the less interference you should experience for GPS reception (due to solar events). http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/communities/aviation-community-dashboard
  5. Hi, My name is Kerr I'm interested in finding out what tools/resources pilots are currently using to pre-plan and log flights? Thanks for your time, Kerr
