About Me

  1. Hey all - awhile back, maybe a year or more ago I heard that if you update the Mavic Pro firmware it was locking people out of being able to fly even if you had permission to fly in those areas. I wasn't sure if everyone experienced that or not? I haven't updated my firmware in forever because I was afraid of that. I do a lot commercial work for architects and the local airport is super cool about giving permission over the phone, especially when I'm only doing 50-100ft AGL flights within 50-100 yards of the home point. (I'm part 107 certified as well) I recently got the Mavic Air and it's newer firmware has prevent me from taking off in spots saying "cannot take off" on the screen, even if I have permission, so I always have my Mavic Pro ready to go as well. Now I'm headed to China for a company specifically to shoot Tea Plantations for their business. (DSLR photo/video & drone shots.) I'd love to take the Mavic Air because of it's size for travel, but I'm afraid I'm going to get over there and get that "cannot take off" message. Let me be clear, I'm not saying I want to make illegal flights. I just want to be able to fly in the areas I should be able to fly, class G, and in the middle of nowhere in a tea field, or in places that I've been given permission to fly. The controller obviously doesn't know that I've been given permission though. Anyone had this issue, know a way around it, or an article pointing to this firmware issue? Better yet, anyone in China been flying around tea fields in Shoaxing, Nanning, or Pu'er City? I see a few geo zones on the DJI website map, but I think the tea fields will be out in the country away from them. Thanks so much for the help - Mike.
  2. Pleasant Morning, Yesterday my daughter and decided to go watch the sunrise from a particular location. We got up late so we changed plans and went to explore an island with our Mavic Air 2. Take a look at the video. Let me know your feedback. Hope you enjoy. Link is below
  3. Hi all! I currently live in Sacramento, CA and will potentially relocate to Phoenix, AZ later this year. I've got my Part 107 license a little less than 2 years ago after attending Drone Pilot Ground School - FAA Part 107 Test Prep & Training Course in 2018-2019. I've now also been flying my own drone for a couple of months. I have a background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and also in Environmental Science, and recently I’ve been working as a Field Biologist in Northern California. I have a few years of experience in GIS and also extensive experience with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) field data collection, post-processing and mapping, and their applications to natural resource monitoring. I was once involved in a multi-collaborator USDA research project that monitored specialty crops in the California Central Valley. Right now I am trying to broaden up my skillset and also supplement my income by turning a new hobby into a second career, if possible. I would love to find any kind of drone commercial work so that I can get some more experience with drone piloting and imagery processing. Currently I fly a DJI Mavic Air, which is my first own drone, and which I purchased last November to help improve my drone operation skills. I actually found myself being impressed with my Mavic Air so far, which has 4K capabilities, among other things. So far I have taken a few short videos and still imagery, mostly as testing the drone around town. I am interested in finding contract/mission work and would consider a diverse array of drone photography and videography opportunities, such as those in real estate, natural resources including vegetation mapping, construction, energy, agriculture and/or filmmaking. I also have a bit of experience with applications such as DroneDeploy, DJI GO 4, and with stand-alone photography using 360-degree cameras. I'm a bit lost on how to pursue new career goals right now though, especially in this COVID-19 world, but I’ve been doing a lot of research lately and I’m hoping to find some kind of drone work. Vegetation surveying and mapping is one of my areas of expertise as a Biologist, so I guess I wouldn’t mind translating these skills into the world of drones and doing some plant mapping work or NDVI index imagery analyses. And that's me in a nut-shell. I would also love the opportunity to connect with other new drone pilots in the area, and possibly collaborate on drone missions. I am excited to be involved within this forum and community. Thank you for reading my short bio and having me here!
  4. Helsinki is the capital, primate and most populous city of Finland. Located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, it is the seat of the region of Uusimaa in southern Finland, and has a population of 656,229. The city's urban area has a population of 1,268,296, making it by far the most populous urban area in Finland as well as the country's most important center for politics, education, finance, culture, and research; while Tampere in the Pirkanmaa region, located 179 kilometres (111 mi) to the north from Helsinki, is the second largest urban area in Finland. Helsinki is located 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Tallinn, Estonia, 400 km (250 mi) east of Stockholm, Sweden, and 300 km (190 mi) west of Saint Petersburg, Russia. It has close historical ties with these three cities. Together with the cities of Espoo, Vantaa, and Kauniainen, and surrounding commuter towns, Helsinki forms the Greater Helsinki metropolitan area, which has a population of over 1.5 million. Often considered to be Finland's only metropolis, it is the world's northernmost metro area with over one million people as well as the northernmost capital of an EU member state. After Stockholm and Oslo, Helsinki is the third largest municipality in the Nordic countries. Finnish and Swedish are both official languages. The city is served by the international Helsinki Airport, located in the neighboring city of Vantaa, with frequent service to many destinations in Europe and Asia. Helsinki was the World Design Capital for 2012, the venue for the 1952 Summer Olympics, and the host of the 52nd Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Helsinki has one of the world's highest urban standards of living. In 2011, the British magazine Monocle ranked Helsinki the world's most liveable city in its liveable cities index. In the Economist Intelligence Unit's 2016 liveability survey, Helsinki was ranked ninth among 140 cities.
  5. Palace - The representation rooms in the eastern wing of the palace – the Gilt Hall, the White Hall, and the Great Gallery – are open to the public. The central block accommodates the Duke's suite with reception parlours and private rooms, and the eastern block – a fully restored suite of Duchess's rooms. Park - The regular French style park with its rose garden, the Green Theatre, ornamental parterres and the fountain, are open for the public. In summers, the park becomes the venue for the Garden Festival. A Baroque palace cannot be imagined without the French garden, an elaborate architectural framework devised of green plantings that should manifest the triumph of art over nature. The park spreads out to the south of the palace, and Bartolomeo Rastrelli designed it together with the palace building. An artificial canal runs around the park, encircling also the palace and the stables. Although Rundāle's formal garden is but 10 ha large, Rastrelli has managed to fill it with an intricate maze of allées, cross paths, pergolas and bosquets.

  13. It was my worst flight at all times. ))) Flying around and near TV Tower, face the drone with strong signal interference and keep losing signal over and over. When I try to film ascending close to the tower it reminds me Don Quichotte story )))) Anyway I got enough footage to compile a small movie with tallest TV Tower in Europe! Enjoy!
