MEDIA ADVISORY VAUGHN COLLEGE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DRONE DAY Saturday, May 4th, 2019, 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Tiny Quadcopter Race with prizes, Workshops, Expert Panels, Fly Your Own Drones, and more..... Vaughn College is celebrating the fourth annual International Drone Day on Saturday, May 4th, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a variety of activities for all area drone enthusiasts. Attendees can fly their drones in the hangar; attend workshops on how to utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to model simple parts and experiment designing their own quadcopter, gain exposure and an introduction to the programming language Python on Linux, see the Tiny Whoop Race of miniature quadcopters through First Person View, and enjoy the DJI-USA exhibition/sale of drones. Loretta Alkalay, Esq. Legal Advisor for FAA (ret): will lead a discussion on Drone Certification prior to a guest panel discussion. Drone fans are invited to Bring Their Own Drones to fly in the hangar on the Queens campus. The guest panel features drone experts in various fields, including aviation, construction, criminal justice and transportation. Panelists include: Scott Harrigan, President, Chief Pilot, Harkin Aerial in Oyster Bay, NY who will talk about using drones for photogrammetry and volumetrics at construction sites. He will also discuss a recent test with an upstate city to inspect for water leaks in reservoirs using drones. Edward Kostakis, Senior Pilot at DJI and Co-Founder of Xizmo: Commercial and Career Applications of Drones, who will examine the use of drones in Search and Rescue Operations. Jes Chosid, Chief Executive Officer, Reign Maker, will discuss her work with NYC doing bridge inspections and Ground Zero retaining wall inspections. Her company recently received a patent for a drone system to sample water for the Department of Environmental Conservation. Elena Buenrostro, founder of Women Who Drone and drone cinematographer.
