droneSim Pro's Biggest Challenge

Recommended Posts

Good evening. We have a different business than what I am guessing most participants have. Instead of having an aerial services company, we have a computer based drone simulator. So, our target market is really more of the operators than the customers you serve. Our website is https://www.dronesimpro.com.

Our biggest problem right now is customer acquisition. Specifically customers who will download and purchase a license. There only a handful of products out there that do anything similar to what we can provide, so we think the market is pretty open.

I'm excited to participate in this and work with all of you and see what Alan has in store for us. We have also come across some "tricks" that have worked for us, and I look forwarding to sharing those as the course unfolds (although, I'm sure they will probably be covered anyway).

Jason

Hi Jason,

Glad to see you on the forum.  Once the value of droneSim Pro becomes apparent your efforts will be rewarded.

@Jason Hershcopf, welcome to the Beta community. Thanks for your introduction!

I agree with @dohara. It seems like customer acquisition would be a lot easier if you had a stronger product/market fit. The simulator functions really well (I've tested it myself, folks!), but it's not immediately clear to users when they hit your website WHY they should use your simulator. What the value exchange is.

You might want to focus less on features like "realistic lighting conditions" which people don't care anything about, and tap more into emotions about:

  • Not wanting to spend $1000+ on an sUAS but still want to get some flight training in
  • Great way to "log hours" without having to buy multiple batteries (helpful for gaining insurance, marketing yourself as a pilot with 100+ hours, etc.)
  • Inclement weather? Doesn't matter...the simulator works 24/7.

I think with a bit of persona research--who are you actually trying to target, where do they hang out? What are their biggest pain points when it comes to this industry, and how can your simulator help alleviate them?--you'll be able to acquire customers more effectively.

Easier said than done, right? I'm stoked that you're here and hope our community can help your product flourish. Please feel free to use this space as a sounding board for strategies you're considering, new content you'd like to run by this group, etc.

And would love for you to share your own tips/tricks of course :)

Also, looks like we're using the same WP theme! It's a fun one.

That's a different perspective than we have been thinking and some good points. I'm going to have to figure out how to best incorporate that message in to our marketing.

One of the things we stumbled across during our research on how to get higher search ranking mentioned that Google ranks pages with https higher than those with http. Certificates can be purchased relatively inexpensive, so the $15 might be worth it to be higher in the rankings. For people selling anything directly on their site, this is a must.

Yep!

This is probably over most people in this Beta group's heads and not the best use of time for people just starting out with online marketing, but a valid tactic :)

If anyone wants to move forward with this, please let me know and I can help walk-through how it works.

Looking better, @Jason Hershcopf

One thing that'd be really cool (and something I'm asking our developer to figure out) is to take footage from your simulator and run that in the background in lieu of your static home page image. It'd add that captivating, dynamic experience for new visitors AND show off your product, all at once. Because you're using WordPress, it should (theoretically) be pretty easy to do. You could try hiring someone on UpWork.com to get it done for you, probably for $50 or less if I had to guess.

Another aspect that you might try is making some real life training scenarios such as a cell phone tower job simulator where you can practice some of challenges of gathering usable data with your UAS. I am sure that there are a lot of other scenarios that you could make up as you guys continue forward. When the FAA finally decides what they are going to require in the future for drone pilot licensing you guys may be able to position your software as a way for UAS companies to train new hires for eventual licensing and deployment into the field.

Thanks @Mattflip, that is exactly what we are trying to do. I have a list of about 50 different scenarios we want to create to allow for specific needs. Now, we are just working on the time and money to do it. We also have plans for how to train and test pilots using a set of criteria. That will create a report at the end of a session and record how well someone does in completing tasks.

That is really cool, scenario based training is definitely the way to go.  I am going to have to check out your website and see what you are working on.
