Hydrogen powers the rockets that enable space flight, in fact the reaction that sets space shuttles up for the space station is the formation of water by reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, (albeit compressed liquid forms to increase energy density). I would be much more interested in the research coming out of Stanford university on complex Aluminum ion batteries.
