Michigan Judge Has Ordered Genesee County Parks to Remove Drone Ban

Recommended Posts

We often receive questions asking if local/state drone regulations are, in fact valid, when most of them seem to contradict federal drone regulations. Many drone pilots understand how frustrating it is to find out that your local park has banned drones.

Many parks have drone regulations that ban drones from taking off/landing within the park and in the airspace above. Although they have the right to ban taking off/ landing in the park, they do not have the authority to do so above the park.

The Federal Aviation Administration has full jurisdiction over the National Airspace System. Therefore, they are the only agency that can regulate airspace.

Well, a judge in Michigan just ordered the Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission to end its ban on drone use in Genesee County parks. This ruling is the result of a lawsuit filed against the parks department by the Michigan Coalition of Drone Operators.
