Chula Vista PD Use Drone to Capture Shooting Suspect, Providing Model Use Case of Its Drone as First Responder Program

Recommended Posts

Chula Vista law enforcement recently used a drone to help apprehend a shooting suspect.

The suspect was a teenager who had been riding in a car that was involved in a hit-and-run. Following the accident, the car fled the scene and was pursued by a man trying to get the car's license plate.

When the man got close enough to see the plates, the teenager leaned out of the hit-and-run car and shot him.

Multiple 911 calls came in right after the shooting—including a call from the man who was shot, who is in stable condition. The police immediately deployed a drone to the scene, which they used to locate the shooting suspect and track him until the police could arrive and arrest him.
